| Welded Construction: Strong Bonds |
| Thursday, 10 July 2008 | |||
A weld is one of the strongest bonds there is, and in the pipeline industry, Welded Construction has spent the last 40-plus years making sure the bonds it has with customers are just as strong. The company is one of the largest mainline contractors in the country, with a legacy of quality work that extends for thousands of miles of pipeline throughout the country. Even though the company’s work creates rigid structures that aren’t intended to give even a little, Welded Construction says it prides itself on the flexibility of its methods. It says a big contributor to its success over the years has been its ability to provide several options for clients to give them the best fit for their particular project. That flexibility is backed up by the accumulated experience of Welded Construction’s work force. Based in Ohio, Welded Construction is a subsidiary of one of the world’s most prominent engineering, construction and project management firms, Bechtel. It provides welding for pipelines up to 48 inches in diameter and says it is equipped to handle nearly any type of project for any client in the oil and natural gas transmission sector. “Welded Construction has been building pipelines with a reputation for quality work and on-time performance since 1966,” the company says. “When [clients] hire Welded Construction, [they] hire a professional team with a proven track record of quality, efficiency, safety and value.” “Our staff has the experience to expose and repair anomalies in the toughest conditions, including wetlands and below stream bottoms,” the company says. The company is also on-call for clients 24 hours a day to provide emergency call-out work. To give clients the peace of mind they need during an emergency, Welded Construction says it holds all of its employees to the strictest standards of readiness. “To provide overnight response to pipeline or facility emergencies, all Welded employees are drug-tested, and we require a variety of crafts to participate in random drug testing year-round,” the company says. As far as the company’s bread-and-butter services are concerned, Welded Construction says its capabilities are numerous. “[We are] capable of pipeline construction projects ranging from 10 inches to 48 inches in diameter and lengths from a few hundred feet to 200 miles for natural gas, oil and other products,” the company says. “We perform our own road boring, open-cut river crossing installations and hydrostatic testing.” Being Flexible Because these different factors can wreak havoc with a rigid, inflexible contracting method, Welded Construction says it believes in giving clients the opportunity to call some of the shots in terms of delivery method. “Because we respect our clients as partners, we are proud to offer true value through flexible contracting methods which can be customized to fit [a] project’s requirements,” the company says. “Welded offers unit price, lump sum and cost plus fixed fee contracts, as well as shared risk and savings provisions and alliance contracts with volume-based discounts on time and material work,” the company says. “Various target-based contracts are also available, including labor/construction cost target and labor cost target.” “Welded Construction has no previous or pending record of environmental citations or litigation,” the company says. “Our mandatory environmental training and compliance handbook reinforce this priority with all personnel. We also require subcontractors to adhere to the same level of environmental protection.” |
