Miller Paint Co. understands the power of paint and its importance to any home improvement project. That’s why it serves customers throughout Washington and Oregon with expert advice and a wide selection of products.

“Nothing refreshes a project more than a coat of paint,” the company says. “Paint can make an old room look new or a new room look antique. Miller Paint takes as much pride in [customers’] projects [as they do] – and making it look its best is our No. 1 goal.”

As a manufacturer of paint with more than 30 retail locations in the Pacific Northwest, Miller Paint says its long history of expertise on the subject of paint is the greatest product it can offer customers. Like a good coat of paint, the history of Miller Paint coats all of its products and services with a sheen of professionalism and quality. “After 117 years in the business, [customers] know [they’re] getting unparalleled experience and top-notch customer service,” the company says.

Many Layers
The story of Miller Paint begins with a man who discovered that most paints couldn’t stand up to the conditions of the Northwest and decided that he would develop it himself. Ernest Miller was a scenic artist and house painter who came to Oregon from Germany in 1885. Because of the unique weather in the region, it was difficult for Miller to find paint that lasted.

In 1890, Miller purchased a stone mill and began making his own paint formulated to withstand the conditions. “His product was of such good quality that soon other paint contractors came to him to ask if they could use ‘Ernest Miller House Paint,’ and the Miller Paint Co. was born,” the company says.

Today, the company continues to manufacture its own paint and sells it through its own retail stores throughout the Northwest, especially in and around Seattle and Portland, Ore. What’s remained constant through the years has been the quality and durability of the company’s product, it says.

“Miller Paint has been called on for use on Navy and Merchant Marine ships and homes and businesses of all kinds,” the company says.

Superior Product
Miller Paint says its paint is ideally suited for use in the Northwest, and it makes a wide variety of interior and exterior paints with many different qualities for specific applications. These include antimicrobial additives, additional titanium dioxide and resin for greater durability and reduced odor.

“Our paint was specifically designed for the Northwest,” the company says. “It’s uniquely formulated to be more durable for our unique weather conditions. The colors and sheens have also been designed to counter the gray Northwest lighting conditions.”

The company’s Acri-Lite brand exterior paint has been “the standard for exterior painting in the Northwest for more than 35 years,” according to the company.

Expert Advice
With so many different variations on the same product, it can be difficult for a consumer not versed in all the jargon to choose the product that is right for his or her specific project. Paint, of course, is a product steeped in highly technical language, and few people readily understand the delicate chemistry involved in choosing paint for their project.

That’s why Miller Paint makes a point of including tips on its Web site for selecting the right paint for the right project. It provides pointers on choosing interior and exterior paint, as well as specific tips for painting in each room of the house.

Miller Paint gives designers and architects the tools to generate a spec sheet directly from its Web site through SpecWizard. Design professionals can select the specifications for the products they require for a project, and these are automatically converted into a document detailing the materials.

In its retail locations, the company says its staff pride themselves on knowing their stuff about paint. “Our people are genuine, knowledgeable, customer-focused, service-driven and committed to excellence,” the company says.
