Derrick Services Ltd. (DSL) has chosen to offer its clients a diverse range of products and services as it serves the oil and gas industry worldwide. Based in Great Yarmouth, England, the construction company’s services include general fabrication, engineering and project management, as well as the supply of drilling structures and rebuilt land rigs.

To provide these services, “We have manufacturing facilities and support offices around the world to service the needs of our customers as close to [their] operational locations as possible,” it states, noting that it also has sites in Houston, Singapore, Dubai, Macea and Aberdeen, United Kingdom.

This past September, DSL opened its office in Dubai as the first step of a long-term strategy for the region. “This operation is supporting ongoing rig upgrades and refurbishment products, as well as providing local support for inspections and surveys of rigs in the region,” DSL explains.

“The success of DSL is based on a strong work ethic and our priority to retain and build on our relationships with our customers through engineering integrity, quality, supply of positive and productive offshore/site personnel, safety, speed of response and flexibility,” it states.

Doing Everything It Can
DSL employs rig-building crews worldwide that erect, outfit, decommission, extend and modify derricks. To hone their skills, its builders undergo extensive training and competency assessments.

“This ensures we are doing everything we can to enhance the safety of our staff, as well as providing [clients] with the safest guys possible to do this type of work,” it states.

Without the right training or such assessments, DSL explains, a rig building crew can be a liability to people and projects. To avoid such hazards, the company has invested in such training as an in-house structure where it performs multiple activities, including derrick erection and dismantling.
“We have decided to set the standard and provide the most well-trained and competent rig building crews possible, and we believe [our clients] will be hard pressed to find a similar level of commitment or professionalism within the industry,” DSL says.

The company possesses expertise and experience in the construction of offshore drilling derricks and masts.

DSL says it ensures their quality by not subcontracting the manufacture of its derricks. “Our derricks are built in our API approved facilities, under our control by our work force,” it states, noting that this ensures DSL’s reputation, quality standards and pride are reflected in the design and quality of its products.

It notes that it has one of the largest engineering capacities and capabilities of an independent company, with its resources in both Houston and the United Kingdom.

Quality Commitment
DSL is strongly dedicated to the quality and integrity of its operations. This September, the company’s quality management systems received accredited approval of ISO 9001: 2000 and API Spec. Q1. “Particularly pleasing is the fact that resulting from the collective efforts of the entire local work force, this latest API approval was achieved without any recordable non-conformances of the DSL quality management system,” it states.

In addition, the company’s DSL Services (S) Pte Ltd. operation in Singapore successfully applied for API 4F licensing. According to the company, this made DSL Services the first API 4F licensee in Singapore.

“API licensing covers the design, engineering, manufacture and testing of drilling structures, and enables the company as a licensed manufacturer to apply the official API monogram on drilling masts/derricks/substructures supplied in accordance with API product specification 4F,” the company adds.
